Tired skin – time to refresh and replenish

Offer your tired skin the extra attention and support it needs during challenging phases – with our all-natural revival and replenishing tips.
Recharge and replenish

We all have phases when we feel fatigued or sluggish – and similarly our skin endures upheavals, too. If skin cells do not renew themselves efficiently our complexions can suffer. Signs of tired skin include:

  • general dullness
  • flaky or discoloured patches
  • pimples, blackheads or oily zones
  • dark circles, bags or puffiness under the eyes
  • fine lines

There can be many reasons for transformation in our skin’s behaviour: lack of beauty sleep, hormonal stages, seasonal changes, a surge in stress levels or environmental factors can all play a part in how our skin looks and feels. Help is at hand though. Adjusting a few habits and choosing what works in our favour can go a long way towards a naturally radiant complexion.

Support from within

Drink plenty of fluids – consume enough water during the day so your skin does not feel tight or appear dry or blotchy. If you find plain H2O too boring, add some sprigs of mint, slices of citrus fruits or berries. Otherwise, infuse some fruit or mint tea in a pot of boiled water and sip over the day. Home-blended fruit or vegetable juices can also be part of your fluid intake.

Eat well – a vegan diet, full of fresh vegetables, can provide a wealth of nutrients to support your skin and wellbeing. Give yourself an all-round beauty boost by choosing a variety of colours for the fresh produce that lands on your plate, whether in a mixed salad, wholesome homemade zuppa or vegetable casseruola.

Move your body – countryside walks, swimming in a lake, yoga or rollerblading – whatever you do as exercise will assist circulation to your complexion and will brighten your eyes.

Get enough sleep – ideally, make sure you get between seven and nine hours of beautiful shut-eye every night, so your skin has a chance to renew itself while you dream.

External assistance

Follow a dedicated skincare regime that you can customise or update as required. Our skin’s balance can differ with varying levels of hormones or during certain life phases, like pregnancy or the menopause, so pay attention to it periodically and respond to its needs.

If your visage goes through a phase of flakiness, cleanse using a gentle cleansing milk but massage delicately in circular motions using a muslin or towelling face cloth. This will help gently slough away a build-up of old skin cells.

If you suffer from blocked pores, making you break out in spots or other irritations, ensure you always remove every trace of make-up, sunscreen or environmental grime each evening. Clean your face and neck with cleansing milk or rinse-off cleansing gel. Follow with a toning lotion to clear and shrink the pores, to prevent new dirt from sneaking in.

Cleansing with micellar water is also a great way to dissolve any impurities and no toner is needed afterwards – perfect if you’re on the go!

Feed your face!

Your skin can also benefit from foods from the outside. Mix yourself a vegan mask!

To refresh your complexion, grate half a cucumber into a bowl and chop 2-3 mint leaves into it. Squeeze in the juice of half an organic lemon and mix well. Use your fingers or a cosmetic brush to evenly spread the mix on your face and leave for 20 minutes while you relax – with a slice of cucumber over each eye lid.

To hydrate your skin, mix half an avocado with 1 tsp of avocado oil and 1 tsp of organic coconut yoghurt. Apply to dry skin and rinse off with tepid water after 15 minutes.
